South African English has a flavor all of its own. I have picked up quiet a few different words since living here. Thought a fun way to share a glimpse into cross cultural life would be to pass on a few South African words/phrases. So I’ll occasionally do Wednesday word. Hope you enjoy!
Hold Thumbs: which is similar to the phrase “cross your fingers” in the States
Example, “Hold thumbs for the Springboks to play well this weekend.”

hey there – would this be equivilant to thumbs up here in the states? or is is specific to just the Sprinboks playing well? I’m thinking I should use your wednesday word during our missions moment in children’s church so keep them coming…
good questions….no it is equivalent to “cross your fingers” in the states, and can be used in any context
i’ll try to make the next wed. word more clear and i love that you can use some of them for your missions moment!
That’s so funny!
Wow!
HA! love the pictures! “not like this, like this!” hahah
