Priceless Analogy

mpho and iYesterday afternoon Mpho, an 8 year old girl at the orphanage, was sitting in my lap. We were goofing off, being silly and laughing. While she was laughing I noticed this white spot on the tip of her tongue. She has had swollen tonsils for a bit so I wanted to check to see if it look like strep throat.

I asked her to stick out her tongue. She briefly did and then put in back in her mouth. Yep a white spot…so I asked her to do it again so I could get a better look and it was gone. I was like what the heck did you just bite off the white bump. She just started laughing so hard. Then I remember that I had just given the kids some dried fruit cubes that were coasted in graduated sugar.

She had saved the sugar from the fruit cube and was letting it linger in her mouth. I shook my head and said Mpho that is so gross then we both cracked up. Then a few moments later she said do you know how big God is? I said yeah He is pretty huge, thinking that was a random switch in conversation. Then she said that is how good this sweet is. What a priceless analogy!

Right always

Blessed are those who act justly, who always do what is right. Psalm 106:3

As I read this verse my heart is split. I desire to always do what is right. But in the same breath, I know I’m human and fall short of that often.

To always do what is right seems unachievable. But God gently reminded me that He knows the depth of my heart and knows I will mess up and not always do what is right. But that He sees my desire and will honor my heart. So I aim to always do right and will walk in God’s grace and forgiveness when I fail. But will not let my heart grow weary in doing good and what is right.

My Baby

Today was my first day back at the orphanage after my visit to Uganda. One of the of the little boys was so excited to see me. He ran over, gave me a big hug and said where is your baby?  I want to see him. I just chuckled and said the baby had to stay with his mom. But I’ll bring you a picture on Wednesday of my sister and the baby.

I’m so blessed and fortunate I could spend two weeks with baby Landon. It was such a special time. I know he will be so different and big next time I’ll see him.

B.F.

landon with bfA few days ago Landon was screaming as much as he ever does. But I have to tell the truth and say he is a really good baby and rarely cries and is inconsolable. He had recently eaten but was seeming like he wanted to suck so I searched in all the baby stuff and found a pacifier. When I put it in his mouth immediately he was quiet and settled down to sleep. Brooke and I just started laughing over his oral fixation but was so thankful for the easy claim. I asked Brooke what they wanted to call his pacifier and she was like i have no idea. So I said ok I have it…clearly it is his new B.F. (Best Friend) so that is what we call it. Landon loves his new B.F.

Pictures!

The internet is finally working good enough to upload some pictures. Enjoy the cute new family!

New Baby!

Brooke had the baby! Landon Mugisha Isingoma was born Wednesday May 6. He was almost 8 lbs and 20 inches long. He is so healthy and strong. I’m in Uganda enjoying every moment with the new family. I missed the birth by one day. Don’t worry lots of pictures will follow I’m sure. I’m a proud Aunt ;-) Baby Landon is so precious.

Many Blessings

Here is an excerpt from the book Captured by Grace by David Jeremiah

Consider these gifts of grace for which we rarely take time to be grateful:

  • If you own a Bible, you are abundantly blessed. Most people in the world do not.
  • If you awoke this morning more healthy than ill, you are more blessed than one million people who will not survive the week.
  • If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation, you are ahead of more then 5oo million people around the world.
  • If you have food in your refrigerator, cloths on your back, a roof over your head, and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75% of this world.
  • If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish somewhere, you are among the top 8% of the world’s wealthy.
  • If you prayed yesterday and today, you are in the minority because you believe in God’s willingness to hear and answer prayer.
  • If you have the ability to choose between churches where you may freely worship, you have a blessing many people in this world do not.
  • If you are a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, you live with the daily assurance that you will have eternal life, and that your Savior has gone to prepare a mansion for you in glory. Millions of people believe this sad life is all there is.

I know I am blessed and try to be filled with a thankful and grateful heart. This is a good reminder and perspective of how extremely blessed I am.

Thank you Father for all you have done and continue to do on my behalf; thank you for all the blessings you have poured on my life!

I'm a missionary in South Africa. I have been here for four years and plan on many more to come. God has captured my heart with this nation. Just like with anything there are some days overflowing with joy and other days filled with heartache. But I love it and wouldn’t trade living and working in South Africa for anything. I am living a dream; it is more than I could think or imagine.
